About

A serious operator in a category that often isn't.

Soundscaper is operated by Kenjin, a London company building evidence-disciplined sound-based wellness software. The founder is a British technologist who's spent years inside this space, read the literature, and built the system the approach and science pages describe.

Where it came from

Why we built another wellness-audio product.

Wellness audio has a real evidence base — Cochrane reviews on music in dementia, peer-reviewed effects of binaural-embedded soundscapes on procedural anxiety, replicated work on rhythmic auditory stimulation in stroke gait. It also has an inflated story: solfeggio claims, DNA-repair frequencies, vibrational alignment, the Mozart Effect long since corrected by the people who first ran it. Both things are true. The category needed an operator willing to hold both.

Soundscaper was built because the position of “serious operator who actually personalises the audio, runs the whole pipeline on the user's device, and grades every claim honestly” was empty. The closest analogues — Brain.fm, Endel, Wavepaths — each get one piece of that right; none gets all four. We wanted to ship the version that did.

The Monroe Institute's Hemi-Sync work and the declassified 1983 CIA Gateway report sit in the lineage we draw on for the architecture of the headphone induction phase. We treat that lineage as design inspiration — not as a proof basis for efficacy. The science page draws the line.

What we believe

Five positions we hold, plainly.

  1. Personalisation should be structural, not cosmetic.

Recommending tracks from a fixed library isn't personalisation. Composing a session from a specific intake is. The product is built on the second.

  2. Privacy should be a structural choice, not a marketing claim.

The intake parser, safety classifier, composition planner, and audio composition all run on our own servers, using a language model Kenjin self-hosts. Your intake is never sent to a third-party AI service.

  3. Evidence discipline is the moat.

We grade every claim. We say what we won't claim. We link every citation. Visibility is the differentiation.

  4. Wellness-adjacent listening, not clinical treatment.

The line between supportive listening and medical claims is real, and regulated. We sit on the right side of it deliberately — in copy and in product.

  5. Care is a primary use case, not an afterthought.

The dementia-comfort and convalescent-care intents are first-class. The Companion plan is built for someone composing for someone else. This isn't a tier — it's a category the existing market under-serves.

Disclosure

A note from the founder.

I'm the founder of Soundscaper. This site argues for the importance of a category I commercially benefit from. I've tried to be more sceptical of my own claims than of other people's. Where I've slipped, the science page and the “what we won't claim” section are the places I try to keep myself honest. If you find a claim on this site that the evidence doesn't support, write to me. I'd rather fix it than win the argument.

The substance is on the other pages.

The approach page walks through how the system works. The science page grades every claim it makes.
